Continuing Projects

Bulb Project

This was our Third Annual Bulb Fundraiser.  Veseys is a PEI company who distributes
high-quality bulbs, trees and plants.  They have a Fundraiser Campaign Package for
non-profit organizations, schools etc. For every dollar sold, the organization receives .50.

This year our sales totaled $2400 which means $1200 for Rotary these funds are
ear-marked for Polio Plus for this year.

This year we had 15 members participating in the sales, Stan Ferguson sold $1200 of the
total!

Daffodil Sales

DaffodilsOn the weekend prior to Palm Sunday, members of the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest
coordinate the sale of daffodils on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society. The sale takes
place at the Sobey's Store in Clayton Park and volunteers from the club work in two hour
shifts from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM for three days. The club typically raises between two and
three thousand dollars for the Society each year.

Hearts Project

The Hearts Project was created to raise the public profile of Rotary as opposed to being a
fund raiser. This project raises some funds but very limited and that is not its reason for being.

In the fall representatives from each of the metro clubs meet to form a single committee
which is known as the Hearts Committee. They order small cinnamon hearts (bulk) which
are then packaged into small bags and stapled closed with a Tag which briefly explains how
local Rotary Funds are disbursed. The packaging into small bags is done in an assembly line
fashion by many volunteers from all the local clubs, then on Valentine's day (Feb., 14th.) we
strategically locate ourselves throughout metro (Ferry exit, Purdy Tower's, mall entrances,
etc.) and pass these small bags of hearts out to people and in turn many of them make small
donations to our cause.
