OUT OF THE BOX

ShelterBox Canada Bulletin January 2010
Greetings!
At the beginning of this Rotary year (July 1st) we set an ambitious goal of 1000 ShelterBoxes for the year ending June 30th 2010. Our previous high for a year was 736. I am thrilled to be able to tell you that at December 31st we stood at exactly 500 boxes!! Right on track.
We could not have achieved this without the ongoing and increasing generosity and support of our donors, and the efforts of our volunteer Ambassadors all across the country who are out there on a daily basis spreading the news about ShelterBox. Thank you, thank you.
Sometimes Ambassadors receive very touching letters from donors, like this one received by Jerry Feniak in Courtenay: "Your presentation was very moving for me. I think that the concept of ShelterBox is a phenomenal idea and few people understand the impact of what such an item can mean to a family who have lost everything. I remember going through a military coup as a 6 year old child and know only too well the kind of uncertainty and stress that strife can cause, let alone a natural disaster or war."
Special mention must go to a brand new Rotary Club, Toronto Twilight, who managed to raise enough money at an evening fundraiser for 3 ShelterBoxes.
2010 is just a few days old and already ShelterBox has deployed to Malawi, Africa's poorest nation, after the recent earthquakes there. More news follows. We are also grateful to SRT's Ron and Claire Noseworthy for again providing us with excellent information about their deployment to the Philippines after the typhoons.
We are very proud to announce that our founder Tom Henderson has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year's honours list. Well deserved - congratulations Tom.
